Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix

The Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix features delicate, paper-like blooms in soft shades of apricot, pink, and white – they will keep you amazed! The Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix blooms from early spring through to late summer, making it a valuable addition to your cutting garden. While most poppies are not very long-lasting in a vase, these can hold up for an impressive 5 to 7 days.

Technically, they are hardy perennials that can withstand even the harshest winters. However, they are often grown as annuals or biennials. Perfect for a summer garden filled with colour and fragrance!

Harvest the flowers when the buds are just beginning to burst open. Once fully open, the blooms become more sensitive to weather and rough handling, so regular harvesting is recommended. For maximum vase life, sear the ends of the stems briefly with an open flame or dip them in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds after cutting. You’ll notice the ends change in colour and texture. Stems treated this way can last 5 to 7 days in a vase.

Would you like to grow the Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix as a biennial? Sow the seeds in late summer indoors in seed trays and transplant the young plants into the garden in autumn. Prefer to grow them as annuals? Start the seeds indoors 8 to 12 weeks before the last frost in seed trays. Transplant the seedlings outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

The seeds are very small, so handle them with care. Cover them lightly and, ideally, use bottom watering until the seedlings emerge. Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. With proper care, you will enjoy a spectacular bloom starting in early spring!
